Potty Talk Time.

Well the time has arrived to teach my 16 month old the art of sitting on the Loo. Some of you might reckon it is to early, but I have the mother sense that my son is ready to start.

So as a first time mum I find it a bit daunting. However, I have been oddly surprised. I thought Mr 16 month old would not sit still long enough (oh, how I was wrong) the first time we sat him on the potty, I placed it near our toilet, so I could sit on ours and show him how we adults do our business. I gave him a few cardboard books to look at and I pretended to read my book on the loo too. (NOTE: It helps if you actually need to go to the toilet) we sat they for around 10 minutes, once I had finished I did my normal routine and mr 16 month old was watching everything I did. (Watching is learning too) after I had completed my routine I asked him if he had finished, he stood up, I appeared in the potty and said 'oh well, nothing this time, maybe next time' in a calm voice. I then cleaned him up and off he ran. I don't overwhelm him I do this training most mornings and sometimes in the afternoon. I do not force him to stay on the loo if he is, what I call got a busy mind, I find I will lose the fight and push my routine back tenfold.

However, I find keeping calm and being patient is making the experience a fun one for him, plus easier on me. No need to rush such things, patients and practice makes perfect.

I know it seems strange by you sitting on the toilet with your little ones but it is working for me as my child is very observant. I try to look at it in his way 'why is mum or dad sitting on that funny seat with a big hole in it' I know that it will click in his little mind the day he does his first hmmmm deposit.

REMEMBER!! All children have different way, so what might work for me might not work for some children. I am just sharing my experiences.

If you have a POTTY TRAINING STORY that you think might help other mothers please feel free to share it with us in the comments below.

Good luck!!!
